China's one foot in fossil fuels and the other in renewables

At the Paris agreement, China pledged 20% of its energy production with a low carbon footprint. In the upcoming decades, renewable energy will be the dominating energy source in China, with the country investing approximately 44 billion USD in 2017 as compared to 32 billion USD in 2016. While it must be acknowledged that China continues to be one of the biggest backers for fossil fuel projects across the world, it is also emerging as one of the leading investors in solar and wind energy, hydropower and forms the largest market in the world for electric vehicles.
