Courtyard Renovation at the White Pagoda Temple

An academic project under the Baitasi Redevelopment Group at the Tsinghua School of Architecture has engaged students in an 8-week long urban design program called “Sharing Cities” with the aim of investigating how to “level social change in China through design”. Being allocated a traditional Beijing hutong courtyard that had fallen into disrepair by the local government, the students were able to put into practice their new perspectives on the traditional hutong experience. The courtyard can now be experienced in three dimensions: through quiet corners, a skywalk and an amphitheatre.
