Shenzhen’s radical transit revolution

Shenzhen, a metropolis in southeastern China has electrified 100% of its public buses—16000 of them, in the last 8 years. The city boasts of the world’s largest bus fleet. 99% of the world’s electric buses are in China. But they form only 17% of China’s total buses, indicating that the country has even more potential to contribute to its green transit revolution. Shenzhen’s massive transformation has been possible by cooperation of many stakeholders. In addition to national support through subsidies for buying electric buses, the city invested in infrastructure changes to support the electric bus network.
